SNFC received a query following the Guernsey race in connection with Breeder/Buyer Sale/Competition. SNFC felt duty bound to investigate this matter and discovered several anomalies but were unable to verify information as proper detailed records were not available. Although the concept of the sale was for the competition to be run in conjunction with an SNFC race the SNFC had no involvement in organising or running of the sales or competition but were merely custodians of the proceeds for the past two years. We have received limited information and believe that information we have received is not sufficient to support some payments or to produce proper records for submission to auditors/accountants so it has therefore been agreed that full amount of £4735 should be returned to the organiser so he can take responsibility for distribution of payments. Any further queries or objections should be made directly to the organiser.
Acting President A Garven and Secretary Mary Pryde wish to convey their most sincere thanks to those who donated birds for the late-bred sale and to those who made donations for their very generous support of the SNFC. Huge thanks also to officials, management committee members and all those who assisted to make this such a successful event. Sincere thanks are also extended to the fanciers who attended the sale, to those who purchased birds and those who placed commission bids and we wish them every success with their purchases. The sale raised a total of £ 3290.00 before expenses plus £ 138.00 from the raffle.
The investigation into the Maidstone liberation was finalised by the committee at their meeting on 7th July. The malfunction on the release mechanism was not a mechanical failure but was caused by a basket from one marking location having an extra string attached that was hidden from view as it had embedded in the basket and caused the delay in mechanism operating. This was rectified within seconds with minimum delay to liberation and had absolutely no impact on the race. After the liberation the convoyer reported that it took up to ten minutes for them to start clearing the site with some heading in a southerly direction. On observing this other organisations did not liberate at Maidstone. As convoyers were packing up to leave some birds returned to the site and were flying around having difficulty clearing. Information gathered from other organisations who liberated across the UK and the Continent on 19th June all suffered horrific losses. The conclusion reached by all was that losses were due to abnormal atmospheric conditions that were present on 19th June. Race control team and convoyers reports attached.
Following the resignation of President Billy Smith a meeting of the committee was held on 19th May when Andy Garven was elected Acting President; Hamish Ferguson as Senior Vice President and Ken Droog as Junior Vice President
